A Century of Higher Education
Vammalan lukio was established in 1904 as a result of the active determination of a few prominent local citizens and it quickly became a noteworthy school in the countryside.
Friday, December 3rd was the time for celebration for the present students and staff and Saturday, 4th of December brought together about 450 former students and members of staff.
Friday was a day of many sided performances, speeches, music and a festive lunch served at the assembly hall for all the students ? beautifully laid tables with flowers and white table linen. The lunch consisted of starters, main course and a sweet and we had a full hour to enjoy the meal.
The first of the two performances was a cavalcade of the past decades starting from the very first meeting, when the idea of getting a school of higher education to Vammala, to the present day. The second performance was an impressive multimedia performance shedding some light on ?girls? things?. The three autumn graduates also got their white caps.
Saturday (also a school day) started with breakfast at an art exhibition where works of a former student of our school were nicely displayed. This was followed by a church service after which the students were free to enjoy the long weekend with our Independence Day on Monday 6th of December.
The main 100th year celebration started at 4 pm and lasted long after midnight.
