Peebles

Peebles

Peebles is a small market town situated about 35 km due south of the capital city of Edinburgh.

The town sits amongst the rolling hills of the Southern Uplands and the beautiful River Tweed divides the town in two.  There is one road bridge and two pedestrian bridges across the river which is famous for its salmon-fishing.

The Peebles town emblem consists of 3 salmon - one going upstream and two returning downstream signifying the breeding of the fish.  The town's motto - "Contra nando incremetum" -  "Against the stream they multiply" - is another reference to the salmon.
