Report from Vammalan lukio
A group of students from Finland, Germany and Scotland studied the short story ?Unravelling? by Angus Dunn and after reading did identical tasks, compared their reading experiences, turned the story into dialogues, drew mindmaps, pictures, rewrote the story from different perspectives and the culmination was a live discussion between the Finnish and Scottish groups using the video conferencing link between the two schools. The discussion was a well-prepared 40-minute session that the participants found very interesting and rewarding.
With this project there was also co-operation with the Finnish language teachers as dealing with the short story followed the guidelines they teach their students to use. The groups also exchanged other material they produced in the process, eg sent each other pictures they had drawn, the filmed version of the story after it had been changed into a dialogue and they could also read each other?s essays.
Being a big success this project is sure to be repeated in the future.
