Scottish Report
Scotland, Germany and Finland exchanged, by means of recorded CDs, e-mails messages or by video, students' views on the question "National Identity"? Students were also interviewed on how they felt about being a part of Europe and you can listen here to the responses of the German students.
Many interesting views came out showing that most students still had affinity first of all with their home country rather than Europe. The German students were surprised when the Scottish students all said that they were very proud to be Scottish rather than European. They students felt that they could not say that they were "proud to be German" due to their country's past history. This came as a shock to the Scottish students who felt sad that young Germans should still be looking backward (almost 3 generations) rather than forward. The Finnish students were more like the Scots in their strong patriotism. This is probably due to the histories of both Scotland and Finland which have been dominated by other countries over the centuries.
It is hoped that we can have a debate on this issue of history on the Comenius web site's forum page or eventually by video conference.
